We were on the road again this
morning at daybreak, headed to Cheyenne, WY.
We drove through a wind farm with giant wind turbines on both sides of
I-70. These giant contraptions were
placed along a ridge line that stretched out over 45 miles in length. It was sad to see the beauty of the Great
Plains scarred by thousands of these massive towers. Some people think these are a great addition
to the landscape. The magnitude of 45
miles of wind turbines is difficult to accurately describe.
Another form
of energy being extracted from the Great Plains is oil. Most of the large farms and tracts of land
were dotted with these oil wells.
The topography has started to change. We are beginning to see bluffs popping up and
we are steadily climbing. At the end of the day we had reached 5280 ft above
sea level.
Joe & I did a lot of riding since leaving home on 7/29 and have a
lot more to do before we get to Alaska.
We haven’t listened to the radio or the news this entire trip. It has been so peaceful.
We turned north at Hays, KS toward Nebraska. We could honestly say we were “Not in Kansas
Anymore” when we crossed the border.
When we were in Nebraska, we stopped by a roadside market and purchased
some fresh corn and cantaloupe for our evening meal. The ears of corn were twice the size OF we
would buy at home.
We got to Wyoming mid-afternoon and had planned on doing
some wash and just relaxing. Joe decided
he would try to reposition our camper on the truck bed. While doing so, one of the “Happy Jacks”
(those squeaky turnbuckles that hold the camper in place on the truck bed) got
bent. We then had to find a RV Dealer
that could help us replace or repair what was broken. Luckily, Jolly Rogers RV Dealer was still
open in Cheyenne, WY and they were able to fix the “Happy Jack”. This made Joe a “happy” camper again.
We grilled some steaks for dinner at our campsite and
watched the sunset. It was a good
day. Tomorrow we will be visiting Little
Big Horn Battlefield on the Crow Nation.
