The scenery traveling north on I-25 to 1-90 in Wyoming is like no
other I’ve ever seen. It started out as
rolling hills and grasslands. Then we
began to see outcroppings of rocks, cliffs, and mountains in the
background. At the top of every hill, it
seemed the landscape was changing dramatically.
Here are some of the pictures taken along the way….
All the rest areas in Wyoming were based on the same
design. Some rest areas provided
information on local historical sites, wildlife, or local plants/flowers. We stopped frequently to stretch our legs and
walk the dogs. At one point in the days
drive, we pulled over in a roadside parking area and went in the back and took
a short nap. That is another advantage
of taking your bed with you while traveling.
We were going to stop at a McDonald’s in Sheridan, WY for
lunch, but when we saw a WalMart, we had to get our daily fix. While there, we picked up some pasta for
dinner along with deli selections for lunch.
We arrived at Little Big Horn Battlefield around 2:00
PM. We had to leave the dogs in the
camper. They weren't even allowed to
walk in the parking lot. Unfortunately,
our National Parks are not known to be pet friendly. It was 96 degrees outside, so we couldn't
stay very long because of our pets. The
way the hills and gulley’s are situated, you can imagine how easy it was for
the Indians to hide from Custer’s soldiers and use the terrain to their
advantage during the battle.
We arrived at Billings, MT late in the day. We stayed at a KOA that was located on the Yellowstone River just below some bluffs. It was an impressive view. Here are some pics of that campground.
Tomorrow we are traveling across Montana to Glacier National Park. We will be staying 2 nights in St. Mary's, MT at the entrance to Glacier Park. Then we will be headed to Canada. Whoowhoo!
