GLACIER NATIONAL PARK 8/3/14

Glacier National Park has to be one of the prettiest places I have ever seen.  (This sentence might be repeated in future blogs, so I’m begging for forgiveness in advance.)  We drove our truck (minus the truck camper) through the park on unpaved gravel roads that had just been sprayed with water to keep the dust down creating a beautiful beige crust covering the lower half of our truck.  The scenes we saw were worth the dirt and grime our truck had to endure.  The dogs rode along with us.  They did well considering we couldn’t let them off the parking lot areas when we stopped.  Here are some pictures taken on the way up to Logan’s Pass.  We traveled this road in the early morning, just as the park was opening up for visitors.

Logan’s Pass visitor center parking lots fill up early.  We arrived around 9AM and the lot was ¾ full.  By the time we left, the lot was full and people were circling the lot waiting for a parking spot to become available.  Logan’s Pass sits on the Continental Divide and has an elevation of 6646 Ft.  The road leading up there just recently opened in July because of snow and ice on the roads.  It was a warm day when we were up there…. 52 degrees with the sun shining.

On the walking path around the back of the visitor center, there was a family of Marmots.  These little animals look a lot like a ground squirrel.  One posed for me on a rock while he finished eating his breakfast.

We drove west out of the visitor center and stopped at a small turnout area when we saw some sheep grazing along the road.  They were kind enough to stand still while I took their pictures.  I love seeing God’s creatures in a natural environment, doing what God intended.

The trip down the mountain was just as interesting as going up to Logan’s Pass because you get to see all the mountains and valleys from a different perspective.

Sugar enjoyed hanging out the window, smelling the forest air, and taking in the sites and beauty of Glacier National Park.  Our other dog Shiloh hung out in the back seat looking out the front window from the middle armrest area.

St. Mary’s lake borders Glacier National Park on the east side.  This lake was also visible from our campground just a few steps from our campsite.

Our truck was caked with mud after visiting the park.  Even though we had our work cut out for us trying to get the truck clean again, it was worth it to be able to travel the Sun Highway to Logan Pass at our own pass, stopping along the way when we wanted to take pictures.  It was a great day, one that I’ll remember for a long time.
